In comparison to conventional dry-air systems, the infrared
rotating drum IRD operates extraordinarily efficiently by direct
heat irradiation. Energy consumption during production can be
reduced significantly. The infrared rotating drum IRD is the
ideal alternative in the face of steadily rising energy costs.
The most important components of the infrared rotating drum IRD
are the radiator module within a horizontal rotating drum, which
has an integral, welded, conveyor screw.
The material to be processed is fed continuously, by a volumetric
metering unit, into the integral screw of the rotating drum,
distributing it evenly through the dryer. The dwell time depends
on the rotational speed of the drum and is adapted precisely to
the operational parameters.
At the end of the rotating drum the material falls into the
output hopper and can be transferred directly to the next process
step.

Competitive Advantage:
The classic applications for the infrared rotating drum are
crystallisation and drying plants for PET pellets and
flakes/regrind. Granulated foil stock from thermo-forming, and
post-consumer bottle reclaim is processed at throughput rates

mixed with virgin granules separation does not take place in

A significant potential for IRD technology is the drying of
PLA, for virgin, granulated or mixed feedstocks. The continual

In addition to drying, pure heating processes are also ideal

oligomeres need to be extracted from the product. Another
heating application is the heating of shear sensitive materials
before plasticising in the extruder, (especially in cold
climates).
